Oops I did it again...

I am a terrible blogger! That being said, I have been pretty busy, have been in a fibro flare up as well so haven'tn had the energy or presence of mind to post.

I've finally started crafting again, yay! I've been having so much fun with it, and want to share a picture of my latest work, it's based on a couple of pictures I took at the Oregon coast. It is roughly 6x9 inches , quilted then beaded. It was time consuming but oh so fun!

I'm making another one based on a picture my daughter took of Hanauma Bay in Hawaii, it's about the same size. I've also been working on some quilted postcards, and other miscellaneous crafting. Of course, pacing myself as much as I can remember to do. I'm hoping to be able to make some of these mini beaded quilts to sell on Etsy.

Well, that's all that's exciting around here.

Wow, New Years resolution down the drain...

Well, I said I was going to post once a week, oops! I've been either too busy or in too much pain or too distracted to remember...

So, what is new? I've been helping my boyfriend set up his Etsy shop http://www.rocknrocks.etsy.com
and that has taken a lot of my time and energy. Also, my sweet, wonderful daughter has been a bit ill and is going to have surgery tomorrow, which has been a huge stress, and scary too. I have been trying to create and been epic failing miserably, LOL! I can't seem to remember how to do things very easily, so it's taking me 10 times as long as it used to just to get something done. I've also found out I need surgery on my knee...which I really already knew, just needed to convince the docs, finally got the MRI I needed and it convinced them. That about sums up the last month. Pain, stress, frustration....but in reality, I have had a good month overall, despite these things.

I will post some of my 'creations' after my daughter is healed.

Itching to create and other randomness

I've been trying to commit myself to blogging, whether anyone will read it or not is irrelevant at this point, at least once a week, hopefully more ( pre-New Year's resolution #1). Let's see how long I can actually remember that!

I've been itching to create, craft, sew, make jewelry, etc. I feel like one of my teammates on Etsy said (I'm paraphrasing here because 1, my memory sucks, and 2, well, can't remember the second reason LOL) 'I have all these ideas swimming around in my head and I know I can't sit down and do them' .

I actually did make some easy to make jewelry this past week for Christmas gifts, so I can't post photos just in case the recipients actually stumble upon my blog and decide to read it! Will post photos later after Christmas. But that hasn't satisfied my 'creative urges'. I want to make so many things, and I just can't seem to find the energy. I've decided that when an idea pops into my head, I'm going to try to sketch it out, although my drawing skills are minimal and nearly worthless, in hopes that when I do have the energy and feel a bit better, I can remember what it was that I was yearning to do. A pre-New Year's resolution #2.

In the mean time, I have a ton of vintage buttons just begging me to photograph them and list them on Etsy so a new home can be found for them :) I'm slowly plodding along in that effort. It is so time consuming to photograph buttons, and then edit the photos (sometimes retaking the photos) and then listing the item all for not much of a profit. However, it does give me something to do that is not difficult (some days) and can be done in 10 minute intervals if needed.

Well this must be the longest post I've made in years! Yay!

I am a terrible blogger!

I can't believe it's been over a year since I posted. Shame on me. So much has been happening that I could have filled a hundred pages with blog updates! First of all, my divorce is final, I've moved....again...and now my sewing room is the smallest it's ever been. Wow. Not sure how I'm going to ever get anything done in there, but hey, guess it's better than no sewing room at all! So, I'm grateful to have it. I've re-opened my Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/ellesbelle
Right now I'm just trying to sell my buttons I've collected over the years, and hopefully get to making some stuff soon.

Small post, but better than a year + absence!

I've moved again and other randomness

This year has been one of many changes. Divorce, moving, illness, oh the fun I've had! So now that I've moved to a more permanent (I hope) location, I am working on getting fully unpacked before re-opening etsy. I had to move from my last place because who wants to see there ex at the grocery store? Running into 'old ghosts' is no way to start your life over, so I've moved out of that town and am starting over totally. Now if I could just get a couple of un-packing elfs to help me unpack and decide what gets donated and what will fit in this smaller apartment!

Once Again I've Been absent....

Sorry folks, for the very few of you that actually read this :) I am in transition and it is a tough road. Very rocky at times and I can't for the life of me seem to remember that I have a blog and that it is probably therapeutic on some level to post in it! I am on my way to being single again. Not exactly by choice, but it is the best thing really and I'm glad of it, at least I will be when it is all finished! Right now it is very turbulent and unpleasant as those of you who've been there before know, and so I'm not extremely vigilant of the blog for that reason.

I have been trying to get my etsy shops back up and running. They're up, but not quite at full speed yet, still in the infancy. I once had nearly 100 listings between the two shops, ellesbelle and ellesdestasht (yep, accidentally spelled it wrong when signing up!) So, look for more listings weekly as I add to them as often as I can. Have so much to list.

I am also fighting my fibromyalgia really hard right now. Emotional upheaval is not generally a good thing for that particular disease and I'm unfortuanately good proof of that right now. So, I'll be back, just bare with me if you will. I hope to recover all my pics so I can post some of my prior crafting endeavors as well as post some of my new ones as they occur. I am currently working on a simple knit Vogue dress with some gathering in the multi-piece bodice, and it is coming along nicely, although slowly. I have also started working on a new simple quilt that I hope will be finished before I need it in the fall!

Where in the world have I been?

No, it's not a mixed up version of Carmen San Diego, or the Facebook app, it's why haven't I posted on my blog, taken care of it, nurtured it, displayed better blogmanship. Well, when the carp hits the fan, the fan breaks, needs repairs and of course extensive help to make it all better. I've been on a journey of sorts, somewhat unpleasant, but occasionally worthwhile, and as always there was something to be learned.

My life has changed and will not be the same, but I am still me, and I will go on. So, here is to new times, new places, new faces, and better tomorrow.

A Mission to Mexico

I have been fortunate to find a wonderful group of people on Etsy in the HOST Team (Helping Others Street Team). There are so many giving, thoughtful, spirited, kind, generous, and amazing artists on this team of people who have gathered together to raise money to help Etsy artists in need. This team not only helps people financially, there are a miriad of resources that have been researched and gathered to give out to those who might not know about them, so that they can help themselves. In this group I have found several people whom I call friend, and others I am getting to know better. One of my friends is featured below.

My friend Mishy is trying to raise funds to go on a volunteer trip to Mexico to work in an Orphanage. Here is a link to her blog post explaining it in detail. She has had some unfortunate and sad events in her own life of late and could use some help of her own as well. She has helped me in my etsy shops with banners, avatars, and ideas that have brought great successes for me. She has asked for nothing in return. Here is a link to her fabulous shop, Fire and Ice Designs, on Etsy. She is an artist who works with glass and turns it, along with various stones, into gorgeous jewelry. Please take a moment to check out her shop, you won't regret it!

On a more sad note, one of my very good friends in my home town who has been and inspiration, a rock to cling to in times of trouble, and has helped me adjust to my own life changes, is having surgery today for colon cancer. I am asking for any and all types of prayers, good thoughts, lighting of candles, crossing of fingers, and/or any other good wishes and positive energies for her on this day that her surgery go well, that her cancer be in a curable stage, and that she will heal quickly. Thank you!

Been gone too long...

I've been a bad blogger. I've been blog-less, blog-impaired, blog-uninspired, for far too long now. It has been a crazy world here on the home front. The basement is begining to be rebuilt. It is now empty and has had concrete moisture sealant applied in 2 coats and is now ready for rebuilding. Tonight through Sunday my husband and his friend will be beginning the wall rebuilding process and that is VERY exciting! I don't know how long it will take, but it does look like I will have have a craft/family room sometime in the near future! That will help me make some handmade items that I haven't been able to for quite awhile as my sewing room was overcrowded even before the flood! Here are some pictures of some items I have made in the past...

I really want to sew again even though it will be a slow process.

Going Back - Basement Water Damage

Good Morning everyone! I really don't like going backward, but I really wanted to share a few of the pictures of our basement that I finally uploaded onto my computer and update the status of the situation.

We have had everyone out to see the basement that needs to and the verdict is that we can save all but the lower 2 feet of most walls (all the studs are ok throughout the basement) and some walls will have to be redone completely. The insurance company finally came out after a week of, to put it politely, 'negotiating', verdict is they will not pay as they do not consider it a covered loss. So, we are out all of the money for the cleanup and repairs and replacement of ruined items.

Without further ado, here are a very small selection of our 'flood' from day after discovery to

finished tearing out bottom of walls.Family Rm, tearing out the paneling from the short foundation wall

Daughter's room, damage torn out, carpet removed, fans in place to start drying out. This corner was one of the water entry points.

My poor sad piano moved into storage room, still haven't determined damage to it yet. Carpet removed from family room, tack strips remaining.

Now we will begin rebuilding one room, one wall, at a time as money permits. Forgot pics of bathroom, had to remove sink cabinet and 2 layers of vinyl flooring to get down to the original icky tiles! Toilet was broken in the process, so husband got a toilet for his birthday! He was actually pretty excited :)

Well, I'm back from my small hiatus. Just to update on our New Years issue - the basement will have to be stripped and rebuilt-out to be a habitable area. The insurance will not pay for any of it. Absentee Blogger

Sorry I' ve been absent. Been dealing with my basement flood. Now that we finally have the carpet torn out, the walls opened, up 2' above the floor is all open, we find out it may rain up to 3 inches tonight! So husband is out buying a sump pump and dad is getting sandbags to block off our faulty back door drain and we have diverted our gutter downspouts, so hopefully we won't have any more flooding. We don't have flood insurance since we are not in a flood plain and we are in an are that doesn't normally have any flooding problems.

Anyway, I will likely be absent for several more days while we figure out how to make another bedroom upstairs for my daughter and all that other fun stuff!

Not So Happy New Year

We've got a flood. In our daylight basement. Yep, inside our house is a lot of smelly water because the previous owners lied. Now my daughter needs a new box spring among other things and has no bedroom, my husband has lost some very expensive and very necessary computer equipment and there are untold other losses as we can't even get a plumber to unclog our storm drains until sometime later today. Wow, I am exhausted and freaked out. I can't even sleep after my short nap, I am too amped up.

Please see my Etsy shop, I am trying to raise money to offset the cost of the plumber and the deductible for our insurance...

Ok, rant over. I hope everyone else has a good new year. At least better than mine ;)

We've Got Snow!

Well, it snowed! It looks like we'll get more tomorrow too and more later this week...I think this is the longest snow has been on the ground here before Christmas since I can remember.

Searching...and Snow?

In between doctor appointments today, I was out searching for new (vintage) buttons. Decided tomorrow would be a better day, estate sales and auctions and all start going then. I still have quite a lot to list, but I'm not inspired by my selection so I put a moratorium on listing until I find more to inspire me. That brings me to my topic of SNOW!

My particular location in the Pacific Northwest is not especially prone to alot of snow, nor is it at all usual for us to receive snow before the new year. Well, it looks like it's all about to change! Snow is in the forcast for this weekend and early next week. Yeah for us! Ok, I know you experienced snow folks are thinking what is up with her? Well, I LOVE snow! I have always loved snow and rarely get it at my house. I love when everything is twinkly and shiny and winter-looking. It makes me feel like a kid again. I also secretely hope we loose power for awhile! That way we can have family fun without the normal interruptions of TV, video games, and so forth. I would love to play Scrabble by the fire and some candle light.

If it does snow, I will post some pics so you all can laugh at the paltry inch or so that we do get :)

It sure has been awhile, Black Friday and such

Wow, it's amazing how fast time goes by when you are out of commission and sleeping most of the time! Now I'm partly back but still not up to my usual self. Fibromyalgia makes recovering that much more difficult.

So, I did sell a couple of items over the ''Black Friday' weekend. Not like I had expected though. I spent more time changing all of my verbiage that it wasn't even worthwhile to participate in the 'sale'. I just hope it brings more business... The sad thing about this sale is that I tried to shop for family presents and every thing that I wanted to buy was at a shop that was NOT having a sale!? What's up with that? I felt cheated, hey, I spent all that time to participate and I couldn't find anyone to buy from that had done the same. Almost, but not quite, wish I had gone out into the madness! Actually this was the first year I didn't go out into the human cattle call of Black Friday, in nearly 12 years! What a relief it was to sit at home, cozy and warm and not elbowed or otherwise trampled (poor Walmart workers). At the same time I was jonesing for a shopping coo and none was to be found :( Well, I do have to admit I did not try overly hard to find one, being half asleep for several days does that to you! But still, I thought Etsy would have done a better job of advertising...

Now off to try to clean up, a few minutes at a time as to not wear myself out...pacing, a term I am trying to become familiar with.

Pajama Day

Did you ever have one of those days when you felt kind of blah and didn't want to do anything except lay around and nap and watch movies? That was me today. Don't know why, but it was actually a productive pajama day. I finished a needle case that has been laying unfinished for sometime now, I finished a felt flower that I've wanted to get done for a week and I listed a few sets of buttons on Etsy early this morning and later this afternoon. I'm currently working on a pin cushion and have recently finished a needle holder and pot holder out of recycled sweaters that I recycled/upcycled by turning them into wool felt.

I'm also experimenting with beading and felt to see what I can come up with. I will post some pics tomorrow as I'm too tired tonight.

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Fall

What a gorgeous weekend we had here in Oregon! Clear skies, almost warm, very little wind and just like a summer day except for the fallen leaves and lower temperature. Perfect weekend for outdoor activities, walks, shopping, yard work, etc....My family? We slept. That's right, we slept the weekend away. We were all so exhausted, daughter and husband from work, me from lack of good sleep, so against our will and no matter that we wanted to play and enjoy the weather, we slept. Saturday was a total loss, nearly the entire day was a sleepfest. Sunday was a little more lively, husband raked one tree's worth of leaves, there was a small shopping trip to be had, and we slept some more! One good thing to come of our sleepfest was that daughter's cold/allergy/general malaise is much better, my serious sleep debt is partially paid back, and husband was able to relax for first time in months.

I guess it's not so bad to stay in on a lovely day after all.

A Whole Lotta Nothin

I've been feeling exhausted the last few days so I've been laying around like a sloth! I've essentially ignored my Etsy account except for the sale I had Thursday which I shipped Friday. Other than that I've been a couch potato!

So tonight I am trying to decide what I want to make for my Etsy site. I want to have some handmade items as well as my vintage buttons and patterns. I just have so many interests and 'hobbies' that I can't decide which one to pursue... So I probably will dabble for a while in all except jewelry as there is so much gorgeous jewelry out there that is far superior to anything I could make in a timely manner. I will let you all know what I decide when it happens. In the mean time, I would like to leave you some personal favorites on Etsy (see sidebar)

Lunch with old friend

Today I will be having lunch with an old friend, my old best friend from high school. We reconnected after too many years (not telling how many!) and I'm nervous and excited! Thinking about this lunch has my mind playing back all the fun and crazy times we had together. We were innocent then, 14 when we met. I remember sitting in her parents hot tub on New Years Eve and getting out, making a skinny, pathetic snowman, and running back into the hot tub! It was a very sad snow man since there wasn't alot of snow on the ground and we were freezing, but it was a blast! We liked the same guy at the same time, he liked her and they dated for several years, we were 15 or 16 then. We rode our bikes every where since we couldn't drive. A 5 mile bike ride was nothing to us, as long as there was a reward at the end...like shopping! Or a milkshake :)
I was so skinny in High School due to an over active metabolism, I could eat an entire large pizza with no problem, no weight gain, no sick feelings...now I smell pizza and 5 pounds jump onto my body...Her dad nick named me Tonya Toothpick, or TTP. Now I probably would be known as, well never mind ;) I am so excited to see her, but scared at the same time. Will she still like me with all my disabilities? Even if I can't do shopping marathons, or drive very far, or accidentally let out that I hurt? I am hoping I don't talk about those things, that our lunch is a fun, light conversation, re-introduction with the hope of many more to come.
But, knowing me, I'll turn it into a 'OMG, can you believe how huge I am? How many pills I take? How many docs I have? How many chronic pain issues I have? Woe is me....' Ok, hopefully THAT is out of my system! She was so important to me so long ago, I don't want to lose the chance that she could be important to me again. So I promise to be on my best behavior, not too much sarcasm, swallow the dumb jokes, and choke back the pity party so I am a pleasant lunch guest.

Now, please don't let her come to my house ..... AAAAAAAHHHH hehe

Here are my latest items on EtsyThese are my favorite buttons to date. They are Mother of Pearl, dyed blue, and are gears or flowers, depending on how you look at them. Since I used to be a Mechanical Engineer, they are gears to me. Beautiful blue, smooth and shiny. You can find them here

These are doily pattern magazines from the 60's. Patterns include crocheting, knitting, and tatting. They are in great vintage shape and have great doily patterns. You can see the listing here.

I am also working on some handmade items for my shop including items made from felted unwanted wool sweaters (upcycled). Some other sewing items, possibly some potholders and dishcloths. There are a few other items I am working on but not sure if the details will be worked out in time.

I also have hundreds of other vintage buttons and sewing patterns, also some more sewing items, magazines and vintage kitchen items I may put up.

Today has been busy with doctor appointments, and I haven't had a chance to search for any goodies between them and not feeling wel. I am working on some different ideas for handmade items to add to my shop.

Today it's cold outside and many people are standing in the cold waiting to vote. This has made me think of all things warm and cozy. Herbal tea, blankets, hats, and more. So today I will feature artists and crafters who are in need of sales and who have great items in these categories.

Welcome to my new blog! This blog will serve many purposes. I have many loves and collect many things. I am a crafter, I sew, knit, crochet, felt, and scrapbook on occasion too. I sell some of my vintage collection on Etsy and plan on selling some handmade items there as well.

On this blog, I plan on featuring an Etsy shop every day or so of a fellow Etsian whose work I admire. If you haven't heard of Etsy, you have to check it out! It is a great place to buy all things handmade. This is not your run of the mill craft bazaar either. There are items from $1 to several hundred dollars. Fine art original paintings by new artists, photography, items for the home from potholders to furniture, original designs in clothing, scarves, amazing quantities of jewelry for all tastes and budgets, baby items, quilts, bags, music, needlework, edibles, really ANYTHING you can imagine that can be handmade/handcrafted can be found on Etsy. They also have many vintage vendors who sell items that are at least 20 years old, most items are much older. Vintage items range from buttons to clothes to housewares and more.

I also plan on sharing aspects of my 'addiction' to all things vintage, especially sewing items. Other interests in my life and last but not least, my beautiful cat Elle (pronounced Ellie) whom this blog and my Etsy name are named for.

Elle loves to lay on her back and show off her belly (or belle as I spell it here and on Etsy). She will tease you, make you think you can just walk up and pet that irresistible fluffy belly. Oh what a trickster she is! The minute you try to pet her belly, even when she is asleep, she will try to play! We love her and she is a continuous source of laughter in our house.
